Conversion courses

You can study many of our master’s programmes even if you haven’t studied the same subject at undergraduate level, allowing you to explore a new area or change careers.

Teacher training

Reading’s Institute of Education is one of the leading providers of teacher training in the UK. We work closely with over 400 well-established partner schools to train the next generation of outstanding teachers.

We offer PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education), QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and EYTS (Early Years Teacher Status) qualifications in early years, primary and secondary teaching. You will need to specialise in a certain age group and/or subject area.

Early Years

We offer two Early Years options for those wanting to train/qualify to work with babies and young children:

  • Graduate Entry pathway
  • Graduate Entry Employment-based pathway.

You’ll undertake your Postgraduate Certificate in Early Years Practice alongside Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS).

Primary PGCE

Qualify to teach children aged 5 to 11. You can follow the general primary route or choose to specialise in ages 3 to 7 or Special Educational Needs (SEN). Our courses include:

  • Primary Postgraduate Certificate in Education (QTS)
  • Primary Postgraduate Certificate in Education (QTS) with with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Primary Postgraduate Certificate in Education (QTS) with 3-7
  • Primary Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (QTS)
  • Primary Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (QTS) with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Secondary PGCE

We offer training in a wide range of curriculum subjects, covering the 11–18 age range:

Architect training

Continue your architectural studies with our Master of Architecture (MArch) course, the second stage in becoming a qualified architect in the UK.

Our course is ARB prescribed until December 2028 and RIBA validated.

Health-related courses

We offer programmes in health-related areas. Some courses are aimed at practicing healthcare professionals looking to specialise, while others are suitable for non-specialists who want to enter the healthcare sector.

We offer a range of continuing professional development (CPD) courses designed for people working in specific industries and roles. These programmes are typically delivered in a day or over longer periods of time, and can include workplace-based learning.

  • Business and Corporate Development – Henley Business School offers open programmes in coaching, leadership, management, people and organisational change, strategy, talent and capability, and board directorship.
  • Education – the Institute of Education offers flexible courses to fit around your work and life commitments, such as a PGCert in Healthcare Education and PGCE Reflective Practice.
  • Food and Agriculture – short courses in food thermal processing, flavourist training, ice cream course, and a variety of courses through the AgriFood Training Partnership.
  • Mental health training and evidence-based psychological treatments – delivered through the Charlie Waller Institute.
  • Pharmacy – including prescribing courses to become an independent and supplementary prescriber, pharmacy practice course, and advancing healthcare and advanced clinical practice courses for practicing healthcare professionals.
