Do you want to study at a British university, but don’t have the correct qualifications for direct entry to undergraduate? Then we recommend our International Foundation Programme (IFP), or one of our undergraduate degrees with an Integrated Foundation Year.

International Foundation Programmes

Our IFP will give you the knowledge, academic training, language, skills and confidence you need for undergraduate study in Britain. After successfully completing the programme and any further relevant entry requirements, you will be guaranteed a place on your undergraduate course at Reading to begin in September of the same year.

Reading has taught the IFP for more than 35 years and thousands of international students from a wide range of educational backgrounds have successfully secured entry onto degrees both here and at other universities. In the past three years, 91% of IFP students successfully met their entry requirements for University of Reading degrees. We have an international reputation for excellence, both in our teaching and for the support we give our students. There are two entry points in the year, depending on your English language levels, and which subjects you would like to study. 

  • IFP September Start
  • IFP January Start

The January - August option offers the same quality and benefits as the September - June programme but in a more focused format. It enables you to progress to any degree within the University of Reading except for Science and Life Science degrees.

For students wishing to progress to degrees in the Henley Business School (Business, Finance, Accounting and Real Estate), Economics or Art, Design and Communication, a foundation year is provided by On Campus.

Integrated International Foundation Year degree programmes

If you have already decided on the subject you’d like to study, an alternative to the IFP is a 4-year undergraduate degree with an integrated international foundation year (Year 0). The first year of study (Year 0) is the same as the IFP and after successful completion you can progress onto your chosen undergraduate degree at Reading. These 4-year programmes enable you to apply for a single visa to cover the full 4-years of study. For many 4-year programmes, you also have the choice of starting in September or January.
