Doing university life #UoRWay

There’s no doubt that life at the University of Reading is different at the moment. Yet our students and staff are still doing extraordinary things.

Doing things now that help everyone’s present, and everyone’s future, is at the heart of everything we do at the University of Reading. It’s the University of Reading way. Which is why we are highlighting stories about the #UoRWay, showing snapshots from campus life as it is right now.

We will be sharing inspirational stories from our students, staff and services that show how, despite uncertainty and difficulties we all face, Reading continues its mission to change lives through education, engagement and research. We will be focusing on life across the University, in relation to our COVID-19 response but also much more:

  • how students are continuing to enjoy life despite restrictions on how we can mix and meet each other in person
  • how quality education continues with our mixture of online lectures and face-to-face, COVID-secure teaching
  • how students are connecting with businesses to obtain work and start their careers
  • how colleagues are helping our whole community come together in support of one another
  • how our world-leading research continues to change lives, despite our changing circumstances.

Robert Van de Noort

From the Vice-Chancellor

"University life has been very different for everyone this year, but our students are still learning, growing and achieving in spite of everything that has been thrown at them and as a University, we couldn’t be prouder of them."

“Of course, there is always a lot of work that goes on in the background to make our students’ university experience a great one, and this year has been no exception. All our colleagues have gone the extra mile to make sure we have been able to operate as a university. For example, our academic colleagues have risen to the challenge of delivering a mixture of online and face-to-face classes; our catering team has continued to feed our students day in, day out, including those self-isolating in halls; our Estates Team has made it possible for students to get around our campus safely, and our IT colleagues have helped us move to more remote work and study."

– Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading

Words One Year On... on a light blue background

#UoRWay: One Year On…

Tuesday, 23 March 2021 marked one year since the first COVID-19 lockdown in the UK.

The past 12 months have been incredibly tough for everyone: adapting to working and studying from home; missing friends, family and colleagues; financial uncertainty; worries about health; and of course, for many, the loss of loved ones.

The University is inviting students and staff to reflect on their experiences of the last year in a new project entitled ‘One Year On…’ showcasing the good, the challenging and the hopeful.
